Ingredients
Scale
1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
3 medium apples (such as Honeycrisp or Granny Smith), thinly sliced
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
1 tablespoon coarse sugar (for sprinkling)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, gently toss the sliced apples with the granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until the apples are evenly coated.
Unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet onto the prepared baking sheet. If the pastry is sticking, lightly flour your work surface first.
Arrange the apple mixture in the center of the pastry, leaving a 2-inch border around the edges. Do not overlap the apples too much.
Carefully fold the edges of the pastry up and over the apples, creating pleats as you go. The center of the apples will remain exposed. This forms your rustic puff pastry dessert.
Brush the folded pastry edges with the beaten egg wash.
Sprinkle the coarse sugar evenly over the egg-washed edges.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed, and the apples are tender.
Let the apple galette cool on the baking sheet for at least 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
For an extra rich flavor, you can brush the apples with melted butter before folding the edges.
Serve this quick apple tart warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
If you prefer a softer crust, you can bake the galette on a pizza stone instead of a baking sheet.
