Make impressive party bites quickly with this easy Steak Crostini recipe. You get tender steak on crispy baguette, topped with a zesty horseradish cream or a sweet balsamic glaze for gourmet finger food.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound strip steak or filet mignon
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 baguette, sliced 1/2 inch thick
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • Optional: Caramelized onions or goat cheese for topping

Instructions

  1. Season the steak with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Let the steak rest at room temperature for 20 minutes.
  2. Prepare the balsamic glaze: Combine balsamic vinegar and brown sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a simmer and cook until the liquid reduces by half and coats the back of a spoon, about 8 to 10 minutes. Set aside to cool.
  3. Prepare the horseradish cream: In a small bowl, mix the sour cream, horseradish sauce, and chopped chives. Set aside.
  4. Brush both sides of the baguette slices with olive oil. Toast the bread slices in a 375°F oven or on a griddle until golden brown and crisp, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  5. Cook the steak: Sear the steak in a hot skillet for 3 to 4 minutes per side for medium-rare. Remove the steak from the pan and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing thinly against the grain.
  6. Assemble the crostini: Spread a layer of horseradish cream onto each toasted baguette slice. Top with a few thin slices of steak.
  7. Finish the bites: Drizzle the balsamic glaze over the steak. Add optional toppings like caramelized onions or goat cheese. Serve immediately as gourmet finger food.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick in your steak appetizer, increase the amount of prepared horseradish sauce.
  • You can prepare the steak and toppings ahead of time; assemble the crostini just before serving to keep the bread crispy.
  • Use leftover steak to make quick beef tapas ideas the next day.
