Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 boneless pork shoulder (about 34 pounds)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder.
  2. In a small bowl, combine salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using).
  3. Rub the spice mixture evenly over the pork shoulder.
  4. Place the pork shoulder in your slow cooker.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce.
  6. Pour the sauce mixture over the pork shoulder.
  7. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or on high for 4-5 hours, until the pork is very tender and shreds easily with a fork.
  8. Remove the pork from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board or in a large bowl.
  9. Shred the pork using two forks.
  10. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir it into the sauce.
  11. Serve hot.
