A simple recipe for tender, flavorful beef brisket cooked in a slow cooker. Perfect for weeknight dinners or meal prep.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 34 lb beef brisket (flat or point cut)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Pat the brisket dry with paper towels. Season generously with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the brisket on all sides until browned.
  3. Place the sliced onion in the bottom of your slow cooker.
  4. Place the seared brisket on top of the onions.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together beef broth, BBQ sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  6. Pour the sauce mixture over the brisket.
  7. Cover and cook on LOW for 8-10 hours, or until the brisket is fork-tender.
  8. Remove the brisket from the slow cooker and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing or shredding.
  9. Serve with your favorite sides or use leftovers for sandwiches and tacos.

Notes

  • For a deeper flavor, you can sear the brisket in a hot skillet before placing it in the slow cooker.
  • If using a brisket flat cut, it may cook faster than a point cut. Check for tenderness.
  • The internal temperature for a tender brisket should be around 200-205°F (93-96°C).
  • This recipe is great for meal planning, as the cooked brisket can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for longer storage.
  • Consider this a great alternative to some meal delivery services for a hearty, home-cooked meal.
