Ingredients
Scale
1.5 pounds ground beef
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup milk
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup sliced mushrooms
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon soy sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
Shape the mixture into 4 to 6 oval patties.
Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the patties on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove patties from skillet and set aside.
Add mushrooms and onion to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
Sprinkle flour over the vegetables and stir for 1 minute.
Gradually whisk in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens.
Season gravy with salt and pepper to taste.
Return the patties to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy.
Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until patties are cooked through and gravy is rich.
Serve hot, spooning gravy over the patties.
Notes
Serve with mashed potatoes for a complete meal.
For a deeper flavor, use a combination of fresh and dried mushrooms.
You can add a splash of red wine to the gravy for extra richness.
