A straightforward recipe for a moist and flavorful classic American meatloaf, perfect for a comforting family dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup ketchup, plus more for topping
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • Optional: 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • Optional: 1/4 cup brown sugar for glaze

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, beaten eggs, milk, 1/4 cup ketchup, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce if using.
  3. Mix the ingredients gently with your hands until just combined. Do not overmix, as this can make the meatloaf tough.
  4. Shape the mixture into a loaf shape on a baking sheet or in a loaf pan.
  5. If you are using a glaze, mix additional ketchup with brown sugar and spread it evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
  6. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  7. Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a moister meatloaf, you can add a tablespoon of Dijon mustard to the meat mixture.
  • Serve with your favorite mashed potatoes and a side of green beans for a complete meal.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and are great for sandwiches.
