Learn how to make the ultimate grilled cheese sandwich with a perfectly melted cheese center and a golden, buttery crust.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 slices of bread
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 2 slices of your favorite cheese (cheddar, American, or a blend work well)

Instructions

  1. Spread butter evenly on one side of each slice of bread.
  2. Place one slice of bread, butter-side down, in a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat.
  3. Layer the cheese slices on top of the bread in the skillet.
  4. Place the second slice of bread on top of the cheese, butter-side up.
  5. Cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the bottom slice of bread is golden brown and the cheese begins to melt.
  6. Carefully flip the sandwich using a spatula.
  7. Cook for another 3-5 minutes, or until the second side is golden brown and the cheese is fully melted and gooey.
  8. Remove from skillet and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For an even melt, you can cover the skillet with a lid for the first few minutes of cooking.
  • Consider adding a thin slice of tomato or a smear of mayonnaise on the inside of the bread for extra flavor.
  • Serve with a side of tomato soup for dipping.
