A creamy and savory green bean casserole topped with crispy fried onions, a traditional American side dish perfect for holidays and family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans (10.5 oz each) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 cans (14.5 oz each) cut green beans, drained
  • 1 1/3 cups French fried onions, divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the condensed cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper. Stir until well mixed.
  3. Add the drained green beans and 1 cup of the French fried onions to the soup mixture. Stir gently to coat the beans evenly.
  4. Pour the mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  5. Bake for 25 minutes, or until the casserole is hot and bubbly.
  6. Remove from the oven and sprinkle the remaining 1/3 cup of French fried onions over the top.
  7. Return to the oven and bake for another 5 minutes, or until the onions are golden brown and crispy.
  8. Serve hot.

Notes

  • For a from-scratch version, you can use fresh green beans and make your own cream sauce.
  • Ensure your green beans are thoroughly drained to prevent a watery casserole.
  • You can prepare the casserole mixture ahead of time and bake it just before serving. Add the fried onions at the end to keep them crispy.
