Transform a loaf of French bread into savory, buttery slices loaded with garlic and herbs. This recipe delivers slightly crispy edges, a soft buttery center, and an irresistible aroma.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf French bread
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Slice the French bread in half lengthwise.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, chopped chives, salt, and pepper. Mix well until thoroughly combined.
  4. Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over the cut sides of the bread halves.
  5. Place the bread halves on a baking sheet, butter-side up.
  6. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the butter is melted and bubbly.
  7. For crispier bread, you can broil for the last 1-2 minutes, watching carefully to prevent burning.
  8. Slice the garlic bread into desired portions and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For cheesy garlic bread, sprinkle shredded mozzarella or Parmesan cheese over the butter mixture before baking.
  • If you don’t have fresh herbs, you can use 1 teaspoon of dried parsley and 1/2 teaspoon of dried chives.
  • Ensure your butter is softened, not melted, for easier spreading.
