Make restaurant-style creamy garlic chicken right in your skillet. This easy recipe uses simple ingredients to create tender chicken breasts coated in a rich, velvety garlic Parmesan sauce, perfect for a quick weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken breasts dry. In a small bowl, mix the salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Season both sides of the chicken with this mixture. Lightly dredge the seasoned chicken in the flour, shaking off any excess.
  2. Heat the olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the butter is melted and foaming, add the chicken breasts. Sear for 4 to 5 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature reaches 165°F). Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside on a plate.
  3. Reduce the heat to medium. Add the minced garlic to the same skillet and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Do not let the garlic burn.
  4. Pour in the chicken broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Let the broth simmer and reduce slightly for 2 minutes.
  5. Stir in the heavy cream and Dijon mustard. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer.
  6. Reduce the heat to low. Whisk in the grated Parmesan cheese until the sauce is smooth and thickened. Taste the sauce and add more salt or pepper if needed.
  7. Return the cooked chicken breasts to the skillet. Spoon the creamy garlic sauce over the chicken. Let it simmer gently for 1 to 2 minutes to heat through.
  8. Remove the skillet from the heat. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley. Serve immediately over rice, pasta, or with roasted potatoes for a complete, savory chicken dinner.

Notes

  • For a low carb chicken dinner, serve this dish with steamed broccoli or cauliflower mash instead of rice or pasta.
  • To achieve a restaurant style quality, make sure to sear the chicken well to develop a nice crust before making the velvety garlic sauce.
  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, let the cream simmer for an extra minute or two before adding the Parmesan cheese.
