Make these simple cream cheese taco pinwheels ahead of time for a crowd-pleasing appetizer perfect for parties or game days. You will find these tortilla roll ups easy to prepare and serve cold.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 packet (1 ounce) taco seasoning mix
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green onion
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped black olives (optional)
  • 4 large flour tortillas (burrito size)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, taco seasoning mix, and sour cream. Mix until the filling is smooth and fully combined.
  2. Stir in the chopped green onion and black olives, if using. This creates your creamy taco filling.
  3. Lay one large flour tortilla flat on a clean surface. Spread about one-fourth of the cream cheese mixture evenly over the entire surface of the tortilla, leaving a small border at the edges.
  4. Sprinkle one-fourth of the shredded cheese over the cream cheese layer.
  5. Starting from one edge, tightly roll the tortilla into a log shape. Wrap the rolled tortilla tightly in plastic wrap.
  6. Repeat this process with the remaining three tortillas and filling.
  7. Refrigerate the wrapped logs for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight. Chilling helps the filling set, which prevents the pinwheels from becoming soggy and keeps the filling intact when sliced.
  8. When ready to serve, unwrap the chilled logs. Use a sharp knife to slice each log into 1/2-inch thick slices. These are your cold taco pinwheels.
  9. Arrange the cream cheese appetizer slices on a serving platter. Serve immediately with your favorite salsa or ranch dip.

Notes

  • For the best results when slicing, use a serrated knife and wipe the blade clean between cuts.
  • You can make these up to 24 hours in advance. Keep them tightly wrapped in the refrigerator until serving time.
  • If you prefer a spicier filling, add a dash of hot sauce to the cream cheese mixture.
