Make healthy, crunchy cinnamon apple chips in your oven or air fryer. This recipe requires minimal ingredients and is perfect for a quick snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large apples (Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala recommended)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°F (95°C) or your air fryer to 300°F (150°C).
  2. Wash and core the apples. You can peel them if you prefer, but it’s not necessary.
  3. Slice the apples very thinly, about 1/16 to 1/8 inch thick. A mandoline slicer is helpful for uniform slices.
  4. Arrange the apple slices in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper (for oven) or in the air fryer basket.
  5. Sprinkle both sides of the apple slices evenly with cinnamon.
  6. For oven baking: Bake for 2-3 hours, flipping the slices halfway through, until they are dry and slightly crisp.
  7. For air frying: Air fry for 10-15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the edges are slightly browned and the chips are crisp. Cooking time will vary based on your air fryer model and apple thickness.
  8. Allow the chips to cool completely on a wire rack. They will crisp up further as they cool.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, ensure your apple slices are very thin and baked/air-fried until completely dry.
  • If you find the chips are not crisp enough after cooling, you can return them to the oven or air fryer for a few more minutes at a low temperature.
  • Store cooled apple chips in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Adding a food-safe desiccant pack can help maintain crispness.
  • These chips are a great kid-friendly snack and perfect for school lunch boxes.
  • For a slightly sweeter chip without added sugar, choose naturally sweet apple varieties.
