Learn how to make tender, smoky, and sweet BBQ pork ribs that are perfect for any gathering. This recipe focuses on achieving that classic fall-off-the-bone texture with a delicious barbecue sauce glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 rack pork spare ribs or baby back ribs
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup paprika
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup your favorite BBQ sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs if present.
  3. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. This is your rib rub.
  4. Generously coat both sides of the ribs with the rub.
  5. Wrap the ribs tightly in aluminum foil.
  6. Place the foil-wrapped ribs on a baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 2.5 to 3 hours, or until the ribs are tender.
  8. While the ribs are baking, prepare the glaze. In a small saucepan, combine BBQ sauce, honey, and apple cider vinegar. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring until combined and slightly thickened.
  9. Once the ribs are tender, carefully remove them from the foil.
  10. Brush the ribs generously with the prepared BBQ sauce glaze.
  11. Increase oven temperature to 400°F (200°C) or turn on your broiler.
  12. Return the glazed ribs to the oven or under the broiler for 5-10 minutes, watching closely, until the glaze is caramelized and slightly charred.
  13. Let the ribs rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a smoky flavor without a smoker, you can add a teaspoon of liquid smoke to the BBQ sauce glaze.
  • Baby back ribs will cook faster than spare ribs, so adjust baking time accordingly.
  • You can also grill or smoke the ribs after applying the rub for an authentic BBQ flavor. Grill over indirect heat for about 2-3 hours, basting with sauce in the last 30 minutes.
