Learn to make classic guacamole with fresh ingredients. This recipe focuses on ripe avocados, onion, cilantro, jalapeño, lime, and salt for a truly authentic taste. Perfect for game days or any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ripe Hass avocados
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped white onion
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 small jalapeño or serrano pepper, finely minced (seeds removed for less heat)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • Optional: 1/4 cup diced tomato (Roma tomatoes recommended)

Instructions

  1. Cut the avocados in half, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a medium bowl.
  2. Add the chopped onion, cilantro, minced jalapeño, lime juice, and salt to the bowl with the avocado.
  3. Gently mash the ingredients together with a fork or a potato masher. Aim for a chunky texture; avoid overmixing, which can make the guacamole mushy.
  4. If using, gently fold in the diced tomato.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt or lime juice if needed.
  6. To prevent browning, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole, ensuring no air is trapped.

Notes

  • For a creamier guacamole, use a molcajete to grind the ingredients.
  • Serve immediately with tortilla chips or as a topping for tacos and other dishes.
  • Store leftover guacamole in an airtight container with plastic wrap pressed directly onto the surface to minimize air exposure. It is best consumed within 1-2 days.
