Ingredients
Scale
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup powdered sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy. You can use a hand mixer or a sturdy spoon.
Gradually add the all-purpose flour to the butter mixture. Mix on low speed or by hand until the dough just comes together. Do not overmix.
Roll the dough into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter, or press the dough into a baking dish for shortbread style.
Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. You can gently press the tops with a fork to create a pattern if desired.
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown.
Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use high-quality unsalted butter.
If you prefer a crispier cookie, bake for an extra minute or two.
You can dust the cooled cookies with a little extra powdered sugar for presentation.
This recipe makes excellent, buttery shortbread when pressed into a pan instead of rolled into balls.
